Fairmount Park

The Benjamin Franklin Parkway is part of the Fairmount Park System, under the jurisdiction of the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation. Fairmount Park has been pleased to be the stewards of this dynamic urban open space since its construction in the 1920s. Fairmount Park is responsible, in partnership with many organizations, for the Parkway’s maintenance and capital needs. Fairmount Park permits and supports all special events which occur on the Parkway, including the 4th of July festivities, Philadelphia Marathon, Thanksgiving Day parade and many benefit walks and runs.

Located at the eastern end of the Parkway, in the shadow of City Hall, is JFK Plaza/LOVE Park. The plaza takes its colloquial name from Robert Indiana’s iconic LOVE statue. In addition to the statue, the park features a dramatic fountain, multiple levels and seating areas, large beds of beautiful seasonal plantings and the Fairmount Park Welcome Center. The Center offers visitor information, souvenirs and internet access.
